To Victorian architects, there was no such thing as too much decoration; to modernists, there’s no such thing as too little. So, when a house-hunting couple fell in love with a grand Victorian house near downtown Austin, the history of the place was part of the draw. But definitely not all of it. “We didn’t want to live entirely in the past,” says the wife.
